Head of School Welcome

We would like to warmly welcome and present to you Dr. Martin Braun, Alexander von Humboldt’s new principal as of August 2019.

Dr. Braun comes to us from Emil-von-Behring-Gymnasium Spardorf by Erlangen, a highly regarded school that trains Germany’s future high school teachers, with close ties to Friedrich Alexander von Humboldt Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Siemens Excellenz Partnerschule, Partnerschule der N-ERGIE, Partnerschule der Sparkasse and the Zertifizierte Umweltschule.

Speaking four languages, having taught German, French, Italian and Ethics, Dr. Braun distinguishes himself not only by having a PhD in German and French Literature, but also by his vast experience working in leadership roles over the last 15 years, successfully training great educators as well as authoring school manuals still in use today.

A truly international spirit, having lived in Germany, in France and in Italy, as well as traveling extensively in his youth to exotic lands as a tour guide, Dr. Braun arrived in Canada this summer with his partner Marianne, expanding their global footprint even further.

International School – Three Languages – Two School Diplomas

AvH is a member of a network of over 140 German schools abroad. In 2012, we were awarded the official “Excellent School Abroad” seal of approval by the German government. We are recognized by the Ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur du Québec. Therefore, we can offer two degrees: the internationally respected and globally recognized German International baccalauréat (Abitur), which allows a seamless transition to university studies, as well as the Quebec Secondary School Diploma, which leads to CEGEP. Our school’s academic success is clearly reflected in the fact that our graduates go on to the world’s leading universities.

Since its founding in 1980, AvH has been educating students of German, Canadian and international origin. Our graduates acquire a wide range of skills and competencies and they master three languages: German, French and English. All this prepares them especially well for the challenges of our global world.
